TRAVELER'S LOG - day 5 in Haiti - The twins

Cebien Time

Alisme, Cebien's twin brother

It is with heavy hearts that we pen this post this evening. After a long day, we received word from Fr. Sadoni that one of the fraternal twins that we met this week passed away this morning.

Just 2 days ago, we met brothers Cebien & Alisme. When we first saw them, one was leading the other through the courtyard after class. With hands on his brother's shoulders and identical smiles as wide as the sky, the young men looked like they were playing a game of "train-style follow the leader". They eagerly introduced one another to The Red Thread Promise in unison, triggering roars of laughter as we tried to determine who was who!

As we asked them about their day and enjoyed one another's company, we could tell that they were both happy and content. Every time we saw them after that, they were inseparable.

Apparently, after we left St. Vincent's yesterday, Cebien got sick. He was able to see a doctor today who diagnosed him with food poisoning and recommended that he go to the hospital. After one of St. Vincent's employees helped get him ready to go to the hospital, on the way to the truck outside the gate, Cebien passed away. He was 25 years old and will be remembered as a talented singer.

Please keep his brother, Alisme, and his extended family at St. Vincent's in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. We haven't heard any details of the funeral yet but are hoping that we may be able to be there.
