HAITI :: Many many thanks

Samantha and Kirsten (photo credit: Brian Clark)
To every donor who gave generously...
your financial support made it possible for us to host 40 campers for a full week at the 3rd annual Camp Jake, providing quality medical care, multiple forms of therapy, three meals a day, and a comfortable bed in a nurturing environment. Your gifts allowed these precious children to experience life outside the bustling city in a safe non-judgmental space, surrounded by people who value them as human beings.

To every in kind donor who donated supplies...
your gifts of toiletries, apparel, beach towels, sporting equipment, games, snacks, watches, duffle bags and other items allowed us to teach many life-skills over the week including personal hygiene, time management, personal responsibility and protecting their own environment.

To every volunteer who gave their time...
your willing spirits and energy helped us fundraise for, organize and promote the camp, securing donations, supplies, counselors and safe travel for 60+ people in a developing country.

To every counselor who tirelessly gave of themselves...
your positive attitudes, big hearts, and passion for equality gave campers the opportunity to be themselves in a loving environment. You modeled respectful behavior toward people with disabilities and set a positive example for others in Haiti. Your example continues to teach campers to accept and love themselves the way God made them.

Thank you to everyone who made this camp possible.
We look forward to Camp Jake 2014
and invite you to join us in making it a reality.

CAMP JAKE :: Just around the corner

We are in our final weeks before the second session of Camp Jake in 2012. The Red Thread  team is preparing an incredible experience for 44 campers from St. Vincent's Center for Handicapped Children. Seventeen counselors—including physical therapists, creative arts therapists and other professionals—have put their heart and soul into this program and plan to provide another life-changing camp for the participants.

St. Vincent's staff and students are very excited about the upcoming camp. They've even been considering ways to help fundraise for future camps so that the camp experience can be shared with more children with disabilities for years to come.

Dieumene, Danika and JoJo enthusiastically shared their idea to create hand-painted greeting cards during Camp that could be sold year-round to raise funds and awareness for Camp Jake.

Please keep our team, the children and caregivers in your thoughts and prayers as they prepare for a fun and educational experience at Camp Jake.

Vote for us!

For those of our blog readers who don't follow us on Facebook, we encourage you to do so! That is simply the best way to get up to the minute news on The Red Thread Promise's work.

That being said, the blog is a few hours behind Facebook in sharing some GREAT news.

Recently, we entered some photographs from our May/June trip to Haiti into several international photo contests. We received word yesterday that we are one of 75 finalists in a contest sponsored by GlobalGiving.org!

Our category, GIVE SUPPORT, has 15 photos. All photos listed in this category are from projects focused on micro-finance, humanitarian assistance and children.

Voting began today at noon EST (August 10) and ends at noon EST on August 17. Winners will be announced August 19.

You can vote by first liking the GlobalGiving Facebook page and then clicking “Like” under each photo you want to vote for. Of course, we'd love it if you would vote for our photograph of JoJo (pictured at left), who you've met previously in many blog posts (see links below for additional info on JoJo).

You can only vote for each photo once. The winning photo from each category will be be featured on the GlobalGiving homepage and GlobalGiving social media. One overall winner will be awarded $1000!

Please help The Red Thread Promise extend its work by voting today! Consider sharing this link with your family and friends as well. It is a great way to generate interest for our programs and the prize money would go directly to our programs. A quick, easy and FREE way to show your support.

Thank you!
~ The Red Thread Team
